About Shaylube Homes
Shaylube Homes builds custom adobe homes in the Santa Fe area. We specialize in building homes that are made mostly of adobe block, a sustainable material associated with New Mexico's history and culture. We build everything from foundation to walls to roof with a small crew, and then work with a handful of local subcontractors to complete aspects of the job to our standards.
About Us
We are a husband + wife team carrying on a business that was originally started by the wife's late father. We both have worked in the field alongside the father and aim to continue the legacy he built.
Wood Ceilings
The heavy wood ceilings are a classic feature of any Shaylube Home. Each beam is hewn by our suppliers in Albuquerque, NM.
Artisan-Quality Details
We work with a handful of local makers to craft our finishing details. You get to work closely with each of our makers throughout the building process.
Passive Solar
Passive solar design is rare in the luxury home market. It's a design feature that harnesses the solar patterns to create a space that is naturally heated and cooled.
Adobe Block
We are one of the few builders who continues to work primarily with adobe blocks. Sustainable, unique to New Mexico, soundproof, fireproof, and durable.
Our Story
Shaylube, pronounced shay-loo-bay, comes from a Rolling Stones song.

"My dad was hitchhiking from New Mexico to Colorado and an adobe builder picked him up. He offered him a job, and some months later my dad took it. He learned everything about adobe building and then started his own business in the late 70s. He didn't want it to be named after him, heard a song on the radio from the Stones, and decided on the name Shaylube."​

​For 47 years, Shaylube Construction Company was building in the Santa Fe area, specializing in custom adobe homes with an emphasis on passive solar design.

"My dad and I built a home together from foundation to roof. The customers loved that we were a daughter/dad duo doing the entire home ourselves, but it became clear that my father needed more manpower. When my husband moved from Spain to the US, it was a perfect match. My husband worked full time with my father, learning everything about adobe construction until my dad started to lean heavily on him to come up with solutions to certain design challenges. My dad was a master 'adobero' as we say in the field, and we are honored to carry on his legacy through adobe."

We are a business shared between husband and wife, hoping to build on what the wife's late father created while adding our own design vision to your home.
